State Rep. Kelly Keisling secures $500K to improve access to Tennessee waterways

State Rep. Kelly Keisling, R-Byrdstown, secured $500,000 in recurring state funds for the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development.

The funding will allow the department to issue grants to marinas that will improve and maintain access to Tennessee waterways.

“From bass fishing to water sports and lakeside camping, Tennessee waterways are vital to the state’s tourism industry. Our waterways provide leisure and entertainment for thousands of people every year,” Keisling said. “It’s important that we keep our marinas and boat launches in pristine condition for years to come.”

Tennessee tourism generated a record $28.9 billion in domestic travel spending in 2022, marking the largest visitor spending nationally in Tennessee’s history, according to the department.

The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development’s mission is to increase the state’s economic viability and support the growth of tourism in all 95 counties by inspiring travel, developing programs and enhancing industry partnerships.

The appropriated funds are part of a $52.8 billion zero-debt balanced budget passed by the General Assembly in April. Republican priorities included making significant investments in health care, public safety, education and rural economic development.
